Taunts led to attack, jury told
A man, accused of the attempted murder of his girlfriend, had a "hang-up about women" after finding out he was adopted, a jury heard.
Adrian Baker, 42, of Lincoln, allegedly tried to kill mother-of-three Michelle Lawson at their home in Swanpool after an argument about money and finding his natural mother.
This week the jury at Lincoln Crown Court heard written interviews with Baker, a former weightlifter, just after his arrest in October last year.
In them Baker said things were fine between him and his girlfriend while he watched a video. But later in the evening, Miss Lawson started taunting him about his past, his aggressive personality and about him finding his mother.
"I reached for her throat and squeezed and squeezed. I wanted to hurt her, I just wanted her to shut up but I did not want her dead. I thought to myself 'I am going too far - I have got to stop'."
Baker said that when he left the house Miss Lawson's eyes were closed but she was breathing.
The trial continues.
