Fewer children adopted

Latest figures show that the number of adoptions last year fell by 70 on the previous year.

The National Statistics figures show that in England and Wales there were 4,317 adoptions. But adoptions of children aged under five rose by 8.3 per cent, between 1998 and 1999, to 1,824.
