My Story - by Aimee Evans

'I was placed in the foster care system when I was six years old. I am now 19 and I remained in foster care until I was of age.

I was taken out of my home because my parents were unable to care for me and my nine other brothers and sisters. The home was filthy and there wasn't any money.

On December 23, 1984, I was placed with Clifford and Jacqueline Cloward and remained with them until today.

I can't tell you what a difference they have made in my life. They tried to get custody of me but my biological father would not consent, so I had to remain in limbo.

Despite this, we were a real family, they are my only family. I owe my success in school to them as well as my success in the world.

They worked on my self-esteem and my relations with others and I think I turned out pretty well. I have little or no contact with my siblings from my biological family but I am working through it and I am thinking of making contact.

I just want everyone to know how wonderful foster parents are and what a difference they can make.'
